17. Drugs policy

17.1 Dependency on drugs should be treated as a health problem and not as a criminal act, therefore financial resources should be spent on rehabilitation programs. The police should focus on the major drug dealers and cartels rather than the individual victims.

17.2 A democratic society demands people that are able to think critically. In some European countries a free debate on drugs is not possible and we stand for the freedom of speech in this issue.

17.3 There are currently quite diverse drug policies within Europe. FYEG calls for comparative research of the results of these policies with an aim of informing the debate on harm-reduction education and decriminalisation of certain drugs.
